The Slow Nids

So despite having painted Nids for such a long time, there will always be a model or 2 that ends up being uninspiring. Regardless the swarm presses on. The

addition of a new Lictor and Deathleaper should be something to be excited about. The stealthy stalkers of Tyranid lore who prey on the unsuspecting while etching fear and angst into weary soldiers is something akin to the Predator movies of old. Yet the thing which kill this vibe is simply something much more horrifying in reality;

Finecast

See the quality of finecast is just deplorable. The amount of cutting and sawing that you have to do to make a mould like semi presentable is arduous. So you get dishearted and you leave the project there on your table. Sitting there. In pieces. for months. Until you resign yourself to finally clearing it off and saying good riddance to it. Which is exactly my case with the Lictors.

To add to this was my own stuff up and reluctance at how I would base a big bug. The Toxicrene has sat alongside the lictors because I couldn't get him on a simple base to be happy with it. So I had to add some details to the base. Not a big deal in the long term of things. I just couldn't be bothered. Its unfair to the Toxicrene in this regards competing with the Mantis Warriors KT and Death Guard I was happily painting through instead. He is finished now though and I do enjoy his aesthetic. Maybe I just need a break from painting Nids. What's that your say? Finish the White Scars or Sisters? What about your Death Guard and Dark Eldar? The last of your Khorne Daemons or even the Blood Bowl Team you started? Nah. How about some Horus Heresy!!
